Refugee Stories Translation
Thousands of Pakistani Christians have fled to Thailand, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and other countries after persecution at home. Their asylum claims depend on one thing: telling their story clearly, truthfully and in English, with documents that support it. Many cannot. Christian Lawyers Alliance Pakistan (CLAP) helps them do it.
Why we offer this service
An asylum interview is a legal proceeding. A story told badly, or translated badly, is a story disbelieved. Our lawyers, led by Founding Patron in Chief Advocate Soba Sorya, know what a case officer needs to see: dates, places, FIR numbers, medical reports, and a clear account of what happened and why the person cannot return.
A lawyer's account, not a rough translation
- Structured interview of the refugee, in Urdu or Punjabi, by a lawyer
- A written persecution account in clear English, in the refugee's own voice
- Certified translation of FIRs, court orders, medical reports, church letters and threats
- Verification of Pakistani documents where possible
- A lawyer's covering statement on the legal situation of Christians in Pakistan
Our love of God in action
We do this work because every person made in God's image deserves to have their voice heard.
"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves." (Proverbs 31:8)
