Combating Forced Conversion
Every year Christian girls in Pakistan, many of them minors, are abducted, forcibly converted and married to their abductors. The papers are signed under threat. The courts are told the girl is an adult who converted freely. The family is silenced. Christian Lawyers Alliance Pakistan (CLAP), under Founding Patron in Chief Advocate Soba Sorya, exists to break that silence.
From the first hours to aftercare
- Recovery.Habeas corpus and recovery petitions in the Sessions Court and High Court, so the girl is produced before a judge.
- Age determination.Birth records, school records and medical evidence, so a child is treated as a child.
- Protection.Orders placing the girl in a shelter or with her family, away from the abductor.
- Prosecution.Support for the criminal case against the abductor, and pressure on the police to act.
- Aftercare.Referral to churches and partner organisations for shelter, counselling and schooling.
What we do for Pakistan
CLAP raises these cases with lawmakers, judges, religious leaders and the press. We supported the call for a legal minimum age of marriage and for a ban on conversion under duress. We document every case for national and international bodies, so that the pattern cannot be denied.
